Fishing from Nipissing to Dokis?, What is fish most targeted?

I was told to launch at Dokis, and head north toward Nipissing. My first trip there. How is the fishing?

Seeing as I helped with your decision to start at Dokis and head toward Nipissing, I should probably help out here too!

FISHING IS or I should say CAN BE AWESOME!!! What are you after? this section of the river holds plenty of walleye, pike, bass and HUGE and I mean HUGE MUSKIES!!! Time of the year makes a difference too. When are you heading up there?

I've always gone up for the walleye opening weekend. We do great in some of the back channels on the river. Try your luck around Drunken Island. Look for hooks on the tops of humps in 20-40 fow if you want walleye. Musky you'll need to come back in the fall if you want a giant and troll open water as they are feeding on cisco and whitefish. Pike will move to deep water after they've spawned and the water warms up. The big one's will anyway. The hammer handles will stay shallow all year in warm water but the big fat ones' will seek cooler water and fatty fish. Bass will be the same as they are every where.

One thing about this area...it's remote. There's hardly any cottages on the river and it's nothing but granite rock, trees and nature. Plenty of bald eagles and clean clear water. It doesn't get any prettier!

Figure out the key things for the species you're targeting depth, water temperature, location relative to the main river and lake and then check out a good map and find similar areas on the rest of the system and you'll be on fish consistently!

Once you get to the lake the game changes significantly. I know there's a few shoals right off the river but I'm not too experienced there... I'll actually be looking for some tips myself but I'll save that for a new post!!!

Again, thank you for the information! We had a pleasant time there. We picked up some small mouths while fishing for pike, a boy with us on his first trip to Canada caught his first pike! We enjoyed ourselves, and yes the scenery near Nipissing was great!

When I return to this area the next time, I will get a guide.
