ohh yaa.. consider winds and wind direction. Those are key.
I would say so . I fish the main with a 14 foot side console and a 25hp motor. I pick and choose my days but I get out the majorty of the time. Its all about the wind direction !

I have a 16ft Legend with 40 4stroke and I fish Simcoe, Georgian Bay and Lake Ontario with it, but I only go when the weather and wind conditions are right.
I spend a lot of time on various weather sites planning my trips.
If things start to get bad when I'm out, I get off the water.

I got caught on Simcoe years ago with my wife and our two young children in a 15 ft aluminum boat with a 30 HP Yamaha outboard. We had to crawl back to Sibbald's PPP and the waves were literally hitting the side of the boat and breaking over. Fortunately, it was the middle of summer on a hot day and the cool water wasn't a problem. But the memory of that day factored into my decision to get a 17'6" Lund deep V with a 115 Yammy 4-stroke outboard. I primarily fish Simcoe and Quinte and I have to say that even with a bigger boat, if the winds pick up and the water is very rough...you're in for a slow ride. Last year I got caught on Quinte with high winds and huge waves...they were actually breaking over the front of my boat. No serious danger, just had to take it slow and be careful about the angle of the waves. As others have posted, regardless of boat you still need to pay attention to the weather if you want to enjoy yourself out there

Hell ya bud!!! I have a Triton TR186 with a 150 Optmax.... I was hitting 50 mph in 38 km plus wind gusts today (on the east side of Cooks Bay in 2-3 footers). I've been on G-Bay in some scary stuff in it, and although at times I gotta take her REALLLLY Slow... she handles big water well.
