MNR Netting.

I watched the MNR survey our lake. I know it has to be done, but its sad to see it first hand.

Thats very sad! I hope someone is actually eating those fish, as i could feed my family for a year with all that! Lets just hope they do a good job and make sure they keep our lakes filled with fish for years to come.

They did offer us the fish when they were done doing all there samples, so 6 or 8 pics were kept. The rest were dumped back in the lake.
5 nets were set the first night, they were full as you can see. The MNR were surprised how many fish they netted & disappointed at the same time they put out 5 nets. They couldn't process the fish fast enough and they sat in the sun for hours. The netts were so tangled with fish. After day 1 they went with 3 nets

I dont think thats right to dump those fish back in the lake. By the looks of it, they must have been long dead by the time they went back in. They should donate them to a local food bank or soup kitchen or something.

I know i would have taken more then 8 fish, and have a huge fish fry for all the folks at my camp. I could have fed the whole camp ground with those!

I'm surprised they gave away some of the fish. I do not believe they are "supposed" to keep any. I was involved in netting projects before and do not remember exactly what was done with the fish afterwards, but that they were not dumped back into the lake. They were very big on the mindset that if you're going to kill a fish, kill it with a purpose.

For sure they were dumped back in the lake and it was after dark. I know they didn't like what they were doing but were told to. I don't think they are supposed to give people the fish that were netted but the amount of fish they had netted they didn't want them all going to waste.
They should have a program set up for local donations or something at least.
I have seen in Toronto the MNR shocking fish,Carp,Salmon,Trout. Releasing everything.

what is the point of the survey? where can you see the results?

That's a walleye with net marks or scars from the net. They took measurements, weights,scale & brain samples. Examining growth rates,toxins, & murcury levals. These tests determine slot limits and consumption amounts are accurate.

This study/survey can't be from Nipissing

It was on Lake Nosbonsing.
You don't think the MNR wouldn't survey Nipissing? I would bet you your wrong.. This particular crew, that is their full time job. Netting.
5 days here, 5 days there.
How do they establish slot limits? & how much fish is safe to eat for a child, or women who are pregnant?
Certain lakes produce fish sizes much faster than others. Some lakes have more toxins than others.
