Drove from work to my favourite fall producing shore fishing spot on Trent.
Weather was rough. High winds and cold rain made it tough to fish.
I thought that due to the weather everyone would stay home and watch the start of hockey.
Just as I arrived another guy pulls up, rushes out of vehicle and quickly starts fishing. Pointing to his two rods with lures attached he a claims that he's going to catch a lot of walleye with these.
Five minutes later I start fishing. Tough start with the wind and cold but I land a 23" walleye within 10 minutes. I'm not cold! Then 3 bass! I kept 1 that did good job inhaling the jig.
Some more people arrive. I land a 16" walleye. More people arrive and a 27" walleye! This guy took a while to unhook safely. I tie a new jig head with a fresh trigger-x grub. First cast another walleye at 13"!
End of night went home with 2 walleye @ 19" and 16". Released two too small walleye along with 5 walleyes that were 22" thru 28". WOW!!!
My best day ever this year!!!
A few other walleye were also caught by others - mostly over slot and released.
what I found interesting (apart from the good fishing) is that the first guy, after I started catching fish changed his attitude. Showed me his various types lures and asked for opinions. He didn't follow my suggestions (except when told him a bass spinner bait likely won't catch walleye). He then open a new untried lure and used. First cast he had a 16" keeper. Stayed on it for rest of his time there - nothing else caught. It was a red led flashing device.
The other interesting observation was that as I was catching fish - some of the others crowded me so that almost couldn't cast - especially with the wind. Others were casting across me!
Anyhow, didn't say anything - I was catching fish and they weren't. Not just location!
Final interesting observation - I was properly dressed for the weather with rain/wind gear and because catching fish -wasn't cold- not even my hands. Most others were not dressed for the weather and got cold and didn't catch fish. And did they grumble!!!
Only took one photo at the site as got dark quick. This one is my first of the evening at 23". Released.
