Hi all, I joined a couple of days ago and like a guy. I just read the directions. So I am taking a minute to introduce myself.
My name is Tim and I live with my wife and three kids in Pennsylvania. We all like to fish and prefer to catch whatever is biting that day. We are not to particular when it comes to that.
When I was kid my parents took us on vacation to Rice Lake. I don't remember it I was only a few years old. My parents tell the story of me playing in the tackle box of an old cedar boat that they rented while my dad and older brothers fished. This is probably true since I am a neat freak when it comes to my tackle. Arrange rearrange etc.
So being the outdoor enthusiast I have been planning on coming to Canada to fish for years. Maybe even a decade or more. None the less my wife and kids along with my in laws headed to Rice Lake this past August for our first trip. We stayed at the Southview cottages and had a wonderful time. We fished the lake as well as the Ontonabee river. We are hooked.
I joined this message board because it's been 3 or so months and everyone I know down here is sick of hearing about our fishing trip. So I figured this is a way to keep the memories alive if only in my own mind.

Rice lake is a great little lake, hope your kids cherish the memories as much as you do.

Well there are a bunch of stories. No record breaking fish or quantity of fish. But her we go. We caught 2 walleye. 1 was in the slot and he tasted just fine. The pan fish were all good and my 12 year old, because we were on vacation, got to learn why we don't keep a bunch of little ones. Filleting 2 little pan fish and he got the picture. We did glean enough to have fish for dinner one night. Which was good enough for us. We had 2 days where the bass were on the bite. And I'll post several pictures. We spent a lot of time ,because of the weather, up the Ontonabee river. It was sweet. The kids and a 1/3 of a nightcrawler and they had action all day long. Oh by the way. Canadian nightcrawlers are more expensive in Canada than they are in Pennsylvania. The kids used a bunch of worms but all was well worth the constant effort they put into fishing. If we weren't out on the boat, they wanted to be down on the dock. They had the fever and bad. One morning, verrrrrry coooooold morning, we headed out to fish and forgot the bait. Since we were on the river and my son and I had noticed a shop/gas station along the river from the road. I talked everyone into going up river to see if the guy sold bait. Just one more bend was my excuse to go further despite everyone complaining about being cold. Eventually we came to the riverside gas station and campground baitshop. I can't remember what it was called but the guys were super nice. They let us use the campground bathrooms and I have to say they were the nicest bathroom I've ever seen. 4 stars no doubt. We bought bait and headed back to Rice.
