I always look forward to this time of year and some late season trolling on the Bay for the fall run Rainbows. Nothing beats "flat lining" and suddenly seeing the rod whip back and hearing the screech of the reel. Gets the blood circulating.
Every time I look at the weather its either too windy to go out or raining!

The weather for Saturday and Sunday does look good. Just my luck, I cannot get out because of other commitments. When I look at the long range forecast, Tuesday is sunny, but NW winds @25km, so that means 3 or 4ft waves coming onto the shore--not a place I want to be. Other days next week look to be windy and rainy. Good luck out there and please post your results. Thanks SDC

I went out of collingwood this morning. the water was calm and the sun was warm. fished from 9 30 till 2 30. I only had 3 hits the whole day, which I landed one of them. the rainbow that i landed was about 4 pounds and a great fight!. had another monster rainbow on but lost it when it jumped. all in all, it was a good day out on the water

Hi Carl Thanks for the invite, but I'll take a pass. Still hoping the weather will improve for Tuesday and I can get out on Nottawasaga Bay. Right now, weather reports are conflicting with The Weather Network saying one thing and Sailflow another. Good luck with he Walleye and let me know how you make out. Ralph

Hey Browntrout Thanks for the info. I keep hearing about people using AC Shiners and having success, but I have never used them. I have "body baits" like that , but I tend to be a "spoonman". I probably need to be more flexible in my presentations. Even if I cannot get out onto the Bay this week, I may troll in the Notty and see what happens. SDC

Good luck if you can get out this week. You should defenitly try these Ac shiners out. if you dicide to, a few colours you can never go wrong with are The sunfish, Black and gold, and the black gold and orange perch.

AC Shiners and jointed flourescent orange and gold rapalas have been the go-to lures for both spring and fall 'bows for several decades. Check the leader board each year from the Georgian Triangle Derby and it is not unusual to find that AC Shiners have taken the lion's share of the winning trout. I used to fish Collingwood and east (and sometimes west by the Mary Ward shoals) from the 14' tinny for many years, simply flatlining the lures mentioned with light mono. Our modus operandi was to be on the water well before daybreak and call it quits when the sun came up. Once it became fairly bright, the bows would seemingly disappear. However, the gulls liked the light and just loved the orange rapalas. Trying to retrieve a rapala from a feisty gull's beak and feet (they'd try to use their feet to dislodge the bait) was always an interesting proposition. Even more interesting were the times in the spring when the fog would suddenly roll in making it impossible to see the bow of the small boat or the ice would be blown in by a N/W wind and a mad dash for the harbour before the entrance was choked off would ensue. Now that I've "matured" I wouldn't dream of taking such chances ... at least not until late March, 2012.
