Decided today was the day to sink or swim so I Ventured out onto a nearby lake to tackle my favorite species through the ice, the delectable Black crappie. Got a late start as I had to clean the snow off my portable hut which I had set up in my backyard for the last two weeks, oh yeah really anxious! Upon arrival at about noon two fishermen were leaving the lake which was not a very good sign, however I was not turning back now. Yes Sir after an hour of watching my two floats one finally slammed down the hole and shortly afterwards I landed my first Crappie of this years ice fishing season!! Fished till 4 pm landing three others and losing a nice one at the hole. Not a banner day, but a helluva way to break the ice. Ice thickness where i was fishing was 4" of clear blue ice. Pics to follow
