Blue Walleye

Was up fishing the Baptiste chain of lakes on the weekend and managed two nice walleye. These fish had a blueing colour to their fins and when put in the snow the snow actually turned blue. What is the reasoning to this???. I dont think that they are the true version of the blue walleye because they had the gold scales of the quinte strain.

This can also be caused by UV Rays in shallow lakes most of the walleye i catch in a small lake the deepest point is 13 feet so the fish are exposed to more UV light from the sun.
A condition called "Sandercyanin" that produces a blue slime on Walleye possibly due to exposure to UV light.

I caught few with the same colouring this year. Pretty neat looking. Think sparky is right with the uv rays causing this.

the blue colour is from some bacteria that grow on the fish. not a true strain of blue walleye as were in Lake Erie until extinct in mid sixties

If you look it up the blue walleye are most common years ago in lake NIPISSING but due to stocking they started to disappear and interbred with the new strain of walleye they are said to be close to extinction my buddy caught a couple on banor lake not far from baptist they say if you get one you should through it back for repoduction reasons this is a a walleye called blue walleye

We have caught lots of them over the years we fish the Marten river area...

what's your source for this information? blue walleye are not uncommon at all in the nipp, catch dozens every year both through ice and open wate.r
