Myself and 15 friends are heading up to John Harding Ice fishing charters this weekend for a little R & R and hopefully a couple of fish... Since we are a little early for the Laker season, we are targeting everything else, but mainly walleye. We've been up before and did fairly well considering the -35 wind chill for most the weekend! We will be moving around quite a bit with portable set-ups. If anyone is interested I will be posting our results upon our return. We have stayed with John before and he has always been a great host and very accommodating. Pictures and updates will be posted on this thread.

So I'll start by saying that it's always nice to get away with some friends to fish, have a few wobbly pops and focus on what's important in life...
That being said this was our second time to Lake temagami for the hard water season and I come home with not one picture of any fish. That's not due to not catching any fish, but anything that we caught was not in season and was thrown back in the hole before we could take a picture!
There was a total of 20 of us set-up in John's camp. We caught a total of 8 Lake trout, the biggest being 8lbs, which we traveled a few kilometers and several different areas before catching. 1 herring about 10" and obviously thrown back... and about 20 ling, with the biggest around 2 lbs and the rest had to be thrown back...
We started moving around once we got there to figure out the area. Using Navionics and our flashers to try and locate structure, which there is plenty of... We fished all the areas and depths that John recommended and worked his day huts pretty hard when we needed to warm up! We did not get a sniff of the targeted species which is disappointing of course, but we had a great time enjoying the beautiful area and getting away.
I'm sure Lake Temagami produces at times but she hasn't been kind to us... Helps keep us humble and then we appreciate the great days of fishing even more!
I wish you all well on your trips to Temagami later this year, if you have any questions that I can help with please don't hesitate to ask...
P.S. We had the O.P.P. & MNR drop in on us twice over the weekend

Thanks for the update.
Fishing can be tough in any situation. It sounds like you guys gave it your all and still ended up walking away with a smile. It's always nice to get away despite the results.

isn't that the truth - my year on Simcoe this year! -
I'm heading up end of Feb and targeting all open species.
Do you know how everyone else did on Whitefish up there?

We asked John and a few other people on the lake how the fishing was overall for the weekend and the general response was slow. John tried to tell us that the hut right beside us caught two nice white fish the night before, unfortunately for us they were part of our group and hadn't even caught a ling... John was very accommodating and tried to put us on fish, just wasn't happening for us. No whitefish to be seen or heard of!

couple of weeks ago we were there in Loon Lodge bungalows which are maybe 100 yards from John's?
6 of us caught in total: 20+ whities, 6-7 lakers and 20+ ding-a-lings
however 5 of us got 2-3 fish each and 1 guy caught all the rest
we were enjoying our food / pops / scenery etc while fishing and this 1 guy was super dedicated watching his rods like a hawk practically 24h a day, constantly adjusting his technique etc, it obviously paid off, I'm nowhere near that dedicated to catching fish myself
it is a difficult lake to fish but fish are there if you're willing to really work for them, bites are super delicate and can be extremely easy to miss
