black spots are probably from the fish spending most of its time in shallow water. I notice it on bass in shallow water lakes. I tend to put them back if they have it don't taste as good. JMO

There's a lot going on with that lake soap factory and other issues. I've been fishing st john for 25 years it use to be a good lake to fish.

Those black spots are parasites, described on pps 12 and 13 of the "Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish." I wouldn't keep 'em.
