Saturday morning I fished by myself at north end of Lake. Tried a suggestion from VanSlyke - no results.

While just about to move from my first hole of the day an ATV from the fish hut operation came by. I said hello and the result was, "Is that you (my name)"? Couldn't believe it! A guy from work I hadn't seen in years - thought he had retired and was running the fish hut operation. Instead, still working and out with his brothers and everyones' family - 15 all told - they had rented the entire lodge for the weekend - had choice of any of the huts. Night before they caught 32" walleye at 23.30 hours. And some perch . . .

Overall he had lots of positive to say of the cabins/huts.

I fished the area for a bit - 20 or so holes then crossed lake to other side - beside the cliffs.

There was a 'walker' already set up - I fished a bit to his north at 20' - marked 1 fish. After a while I move south of him. I start fishing - he gets out of tent and comes towards me.

He's asks me if I'm Bluenote! He recognized my rig from earlier postings. I'm astounded!!! He is a lurker - yet to post his first report. Trust that he posts his results today - he was planning to stay out late Saturday evening. I hope he caught a walleye or two!

After getting my first perch of the day I head back to the cottage for lunch. Next cottage had five guys fishing around the point - nothing.

Fished the rest of the day around the point - one perch. The big buddy worked very well - recovered from its fall into the water earlier in the week! The five guys - nothing (no electronics) although 1 did get a hit that snapped his hook.

Best day for me yet this year - 2 perch! Last time I did so well on Kashagawigamog was 2 years ago when first day caught 2 perch . . .

Had planned to stop somewhere on way home from cottage to fish some more - but by time left - too late (and too cold to engage the other two with me).

I'm thinking next weekend to a sure (for me) spot to get some walleye on BOQ . . .

Gotta say Bluenote, you have worked the hardest for the least results and still stayed positive! Good on you. I hope your patience is rewarded with a big haul on your next outing.

Cheers.

my bother in law booked a place up on Kashagagwigamog. He has this Geo Holiday thing and if you don't use it you lose it. Anyways.... I am planning to be up there on Feb 14, 15, 16 and maybe 17. Do I need to bring an ATV or walking is fine? I hate to drag the ATV all the way up there and have it park outside at night for 3 nights. I also read up that fishing this lake is tough. I am a simcoe guy and this will be something new to me. Either fishing or staying at the indoor pool.

Not sure where you're staying the night. Kashagawigamog is very long - something like 12 miles? And could be described by some as two lakes. Likely would need the ATV to get onto and move around?

Suggest you google the place you are staying at, and give them a call. Perhaps they would drive you with their machine (if they have one).

Staying at Haliburton Heights. Not familiar with this area. Just know it is right by the lake.

And the other side of the lake is the bonnie inn.

Last week I fished between bonnie and the point near haliburton heights. I'd say some good perching in area perhaps walleye . . .

Snowmobile trail runs across the ice there.

Further west is the narrows between the two sections of the lake.

I'd say if good with perch and not much equipment - could leave ATV. However - if staying a few days - may want to move around a bit -try for lakers/ herring and the walleye . . .

Regardless - I think many of us would appreciate you posting a report with pics of the trip when back!

Thanks.

There is a youtube with some strong profanity of ice fishing catching large musky on the lake some years ago . . .

Will defiantly post a report during the trip.

I personally do not like musky. When I was 17 I caught a musky up at a dame in the Kawartha. I did not know how to handle or lift the fish. Held it at the gills and when it wiggled my hand slipped through the gills and out the mouth. Once I pulled my hands out it was covered in blood. Thought it was the fish bleeding. So I washed my hands in the lake and realized it was my hands that is bleeding. Ohh the it sting! Never again did I care catch them.
