I hooked up with a friend today from Manitoulin Island and we ventured north to Lake Rosseau to target some Dinner size trout.
Arrived at the lake at 930am and after a short walk out from shore on two inches of newly fallen snow we drilled our four holes and away we were to the races! I Never promised to catch any fish today I knew better than to say that to my friend whom I refer to as the Manitoulin jinx!!
However that said, I was fully confident in my location that we would not be held off the board. The first hour or so was rather slow with nary a bite. Finally while I was admiring the beauty of nature surrounding us, whack!! Down goes my slipfloat the battle was on. Feels like a decent one I remark to my buddy and the drag continues to screech. I wrestle the nice three pounder to the surface and we are on the board. I land two more before the manitoulin jinx finally breaks the ice and decides to contribute one for our tablefare. Another great day on the lake with good company, great weather and a few fish to keep us interested. Final count DB 5 the Manitoulin jinx 1. In four hours of fishing and a half hour chat with the MNR.
The jinx will have his chance to repay the favor in two and a half weeks, when I head up there for my annual fishing derby in Elliott Lake. Pics to follow. Good Fishing my friends!!

Just an average day?? Sounds like a pretty good day to me, all around. Fishing with a buddy on a nice winter day in the middle of God's country! What's not to like.

What's this 'slip bobber' thing all about. Why use a bobber for ice fishing?

thx

Lol! Was a Really Fantastic day, I don't get out very often with my good friend as four hour drive has limited Our time to fish together. Average day on the actual fishing side of things hits, fish landed and misses! Waiting for Jerry to post pics, he must be censoring them lol!

Why use a slipfloat? Cause it works, and very Well. Allows minnows to swim around down below with very little restrictions. Also the slightest of bites can be detected. After awhile when a fish picks up the bait you become so familiar with the pattern you miss very few hits on the hookset. It
It has worked for me on Rosseau and manitoulin Island for lakers and for other species of fish such
As walleye, crappie, and pike. Wouldn't fish without my set up.
