We met at 7:30 this morning in the parking lot. Myself, Furlong(Brandon), Pikepaul(Paul), Wilbur007)(Myles) and Ratherbe((Lawrence).
Brandon and I have been fishing together this winter and we have been joined by Myles a few times. Paul and Lawrence were new additions and came as a result of my post yesterday asking if people wanted to fish with me.
We headed out and tried an experiment near a reef. We split up and fished 40fow, 37fow, 26fow and 17fow. Didn't mark a thing. I thought fish might be in close--no such luck.
Myself, Brandon and Paul headed out to 80fow and set up there. Myles had gone off on his own and Lawrence was running and gunning on his ATV.
Didn't mark much in 80fow, so we headed SE into 88fow.
We found some fish, not a lot, but we had some chasers and followers and Paul "broke the laker cherry", picking up a nice 7.5lb fish on a lipless crankbait jigged 30ft off bottom.
I couldn't buy a hit.
We quit a 2:30 and started walking in from 1.25 miles out. Really tough going in the snow, anywhere from 2inches to 8inches deep. Going out we did things in 20 minute segments with lots of rest between hikes. It took an hour to walk back in. I have a reputation for "walking people into the ice". Not today--I found it really tough going and by the time I hit shore I had aches and pains in places I never knew existed before. They still ache as I sit here typing this.--Boy will I sleep tonight.
Like myself, Brandon was skunked and Lawrence sent me a PM to say that he was skunked. Don't know about Myles.
Anyways, good day to be out, not too cold and not too windy. Met some more Board members and as usual, nice people. Nice people, one of the key attributes of this Board.
Paul was like a dog with 2 tails after he got his laker. Phoning and texting pics to all and sundry to explain his catch. Glad to have helped him get it.
Cannot get out again until next week, so will keep my fingers crossed that the walking conditions improve.
Pic of Paul and his fish attached.
