The day started off c-c-cold. Well, it’s Canada in mid-Feb after all! Allan and I arrived at Spot “X” near Port Carling around 9:30 and as soon as we emerged from the shade of the trees we could feel the temperature difference. It looked like a very nice day, as forecast.
We drilled a couple of holes and I was ‘on the board’ with a small laker within 10 mins. Back down the hole it went, hopefully to call his bigger siblings over my way. Then it was the seemingly inevitable ‘lost it at the hole’ trick. A few nibbles for Allan and I just to keep things interesting, then a couple of more small ones. Then a bit bigger one that I decided to keep in case my luck ran out. (I needed to keep at least 1 as the price of admission to have my wife let me back into the house)
It looked like Allan was playing the part I played last week---a few swings but all misses so far. But then a fairly solid one and he’s ‘on the board’, much to his relief! Then another reasonable size one and he has his 2 keeper for the day.
We had belatedly set up our sonars and continued to watch a few fish saunter by just window shopping. Maybe they burped as they went by because we did see a few ‘bait balls’ drift by as well.
I had bought a couple of little dinky foam slip-floats at CT to try out DB’s technique. It was a bit fussy and didn’t work to well but I’m not giving up yet after seeing ‘the master’ use that technique with great success last week. So it’s back to the store to ‘invest’ in some different bobbers---maybe Thills plus bigger spongeys.
Later in the afternoon J’s Nest came along to try his luck. We sat there enjoying the sunshine and the good company for another while but without any success of the fishy kind. It was such a brilliant day that when the owners of the nearby hard-sided hut showed up the just drilled a couple of holes beside their hut and sat out enjoying the sunshine.

BTW, it's -21(feels like -32) up there now so I guess we chose the best day!.

All in all a great day and many thanks to DB for helping us find the fish.
I’ll try to add a couple pix.

Great work guys! It's a beauty area. Yes Dale is the laker taker on rosseau. I too am going to give his float technique a try one day. Now if we could just get some good temperatures to make it bearable.

Regards, ff.

Just for the record- my parking worked out a bit better this time....didnt need Harold to push anything but his rather strange homemade sled type contraption.....

Hi Harold and Allan, looks like you guys had a great day, I'm sorry I couldn't join you guys. Im glad I could contribute to your success and enjoyment and look forward to getting out with you guys in early March when I return from my manitoulin island and Elliott lake trip. Maybe by that time Harold will have the proper thill floats and have the slipfloat method conquered. Lol!! Have a good time and save me a lunker or two lol!!
