Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am looking to get away from the crowds on Simcoe for a week or two. Can anyone point me in the direction of finding some lakes around Algonquin Highlands or within an hour of that area in which to catch whitefish. I have looked at the MNR's Fish Online and there's just so many lakes that have whitefish listed to inhabit them. Just because a biologist caught a couple in a gill net back in the 60's, doesn't mean it is a productive fishery.....

Anyways, any and all help is much appreciated,

Thanks,

hey try fishing the top end of Boshkung Lake at Buttermilk falls. You wont be able to miss the huts and I've had some pretty good luck there. Access down a trail parallel to the falls.

Have you been on the ice there yet this season? I heard some lakes up near sundridge are almost very rough going, snow, slush, thin ice...

And if machine breaks through the snow to the slush then freezes easily on these temps over the machine . . . .

operator on Boshkung lake reported 16" of safe ice. Might check that out there. Im just going to take caution with the currents at the north end.
