This form is awesome. I love seeing all different species being caught. This is my biggest fish caught so far. And I was not even going for Muskie that day. Jeff and I were in a bass tournament and this is what came out to play. I was throwing a 3" shad swim bate from Berkley on a size 5 hook on 20 lbs fluorocarbon. She took me almost 1/2 hour to get into the boat. Good news as well she went back to the depths healthy on her own.

There's no way that fish is only 12 or 13 pounds. Unless you are holding the fish out and it looks bigger than it is but I don't think so. If that fish is 36-38 inches then I would say it's anywhere from 19.5 to 22 pounds. Forget the girth and ask any taxidermist or look up on-line just the length format to get an estimation on weight of lake trout based on length alone and you should get a rough idea of how much it weighs. Surprisingly it's very accurate. It's usually only off by a pound only sometimes based on eggs in the belly, food or lack of and size of fish meaning a 5 lb fish might be off a couple of ounces when a 20lb fish might very by a pound.

PB laker caught January 26th 2014. No time to measure or weigh fish. More concerned about the release. She's back in there. Any guesses on weight? I would say 19.5 to 22 pounds.
