Well last week was looking promising with the ice growing out from the town wharf several hundred yards...well after yesterday with the wind and rain we have nothing but ice cubes and open water with white caps as far as you can see!!!!!!
East Portage Bay (Lake Rosseau) around the point is still intact (really shallow area) so hopefully with the overnight temps this week and diminished winds the ice will rebuild quickly.
On Three Mile Lake the ice remained intact although I have not heard any reports on thickness and no machines or the local hut operator have been running the lake.
The overnight temps for this week are mostly -10 to -22 so I'm sure the ice will be forming on the open water and tightening up those that remained intact.

I'll try and keep this board updated as to the ice status...once the ice is in come on up...make sure I'm aware and I'll get Backwoodsmanbob and a few others up.

Ok sounds like fun. Count me in. Should I bother to bring spoons, Bob tells me I should leave them at home. j/k Minnows on bottom have worked well for me in the past.

Minnows on a drop line and tipup/bobber work great here ...small spoons tipped with a minnow works most days...on tough days if they won't take a dropline I have found they love a small silver and black rapala jigged aggressively about 5' off bottom and as soon as they move up after it reel like crazy...they usually hit it several times before the surface...of course you need a flasher or fishfinder with a graph bar to see ...its a hoot ...last year I was catching herring regularly and up here you can keep them.

I would probably come up just to stir up the mud. Jerry, it is rare to catch on anything but minnows, I have heard the stories but ya know. Hry Dave hows the snow? maybe bring the machines up one day??

Winds did it again...even after the two -23 nights and below 0 temps throughout the last three days ....we only have an icecap out about 150' from the shoreline and wharf....there were whitecaps out there smashing the ice to cubes ...some might have been tempted to break out a surf board.
