Hi Everyone, last year was my first hard water season, I got the 8 inch strike master auger, big buddy heater, and I just bought the xl4000 big foot clam, I'll be travelling by sled and want to invest into a good quality GPS, heard a couple board members mention the Garmin 64 S, is this an okay model ? any info is appreciated.

I have navionics on my iPhone. It hates the cold and will die. I put it in a ziploc bag or clear dry sack I use for canoeing with a hand warmer and it runs all day. The warmer keeps the battery toasty. Just an FYI. The navionics was $15. Hand warmer a buck each time. Economical

If the 64 is anything like the 60 series it's a good GPS and I would recommend it. In 2006 I bought a 60CSx mainly for ice fishing. I wanted a GPS I could mark fishing spots, store them on my computer and reload them in years to come. This was my first GPS and I found it easy to use along with Map Source (not Base Camp) the computer program. I have since purchased a Montana 650, this is used ATVing and for travel, however I still take the 60CSx ice fishing, its smaller and can fit in the breast pocket of my coat.

I have a Garmin 78s with a Backroad GPS Map Ontario SD card that I really like. It fits in my pocket and is easy to use although it has more features and available information than I'll probably ever need. It is very comparable to the 64s in features with one exception: the 78s floats. The 78s is also somewhat cheaper. You can check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPqf-2ABGT0 for a video that gives a very brief overview of both products.

Sort of wish you hadn't posted the you tube info. Just coming back from nearly two of surfing you tube and Garmin compares!!!
I'm now convinced that I should be travelling on Argo with a 'modern ' gps. One that can be mounted on vehicle to view.
Six years ago I bought a terrific gps unit - however haven't really used since started using Android phones for past four years . . .
