I never thought i'd be asking this at Christmas time, but, if i was going to take the tinnie out on a smaller lake for walleye in the next 2 weeks, what areas would you key on. I'm thinking a mid-lake flat that comes up to 12' from 26' all around it. The lake is 24' - 30' max in the main basin.

I would check the regs at the top of page, I'm pretty sure walleye in the Kawarthas closed in November, there might be an exception on the lake you are planning on fishing.

I'm in zone 15 but zone 17 is on the other side of the road. Sounds like a good spot to start, I would look for the spot within the spot, possibly the easterly side at dusk after the sun has had a chance to warm up that part of the lake. Can't go wrong with a minnow.

Ha ha. Thanks guys, i will definitely try those tips. Ya pretty much the same thing for me, a stones throw (well not literally) from us (zone 15) to zone 17.

I'm no Walleye expert either (far from it, just for the record). But if it was me, this time of year I'd be at the river mouth, or in the river fishing the deep, quiet water very slowly. Slower than slow. Jig and Twister. If you aren't getting hung up, you're fishing too fast.

I'm far from being an expert, but I've done well in the past vertical jigging with spoons and Blade baits. You could also try Jigging Raps or lipless cranks. Walleye will still smash those baits at this time of year...
