Hi there. I've been fishing lake Nipissing in the winter time, since i moved to North any 6 years ago. I have always heard their are whitefish in the lake but i've never caught one. I have caught plenty of herring but never a whitefish. are they really in there? is there a trick to catching them?

I have not fished Nip without geting whities... if you would like when we have good ice you can join me on an outing

And there's the member you should head out with for WF.

nice offer

Hey guys. On the topic of what fish is in the lake, I was wondering what's in Nosbonsing lake? Few of us rented huts for the end of this month. Just wanted to know what to target?

I caught this couple years ago at SSIC on nipp, my boyfriend and I wasn't sure if it was a Whitefish or herring? We put it back not knowing the species lol. Saw a whitefish tab and wanted some opinions.

We are booked for the 17th-19th at SSIC && hoping the ice will be safe 😃🐟

It's a little hard to see, But if i'm looking at it right it seems that the top of it's mouth is out farther than the bottom, so it looks like a whitefish, but then again it is quite small for a whitefish in nippissing and closer to the size of a herring.

Herring for shure

I have to agree fishchaser.
The shape of the tail especially, gill plate and overall coloring and size would indicate to me L. Herring (Cisco). The mouth doesn't look, from the photo, to resemble the sucker like mouth that whitefish have (although, it's difficult to really tell from the photo).

I'll attached the website again. Judge for yourself

They are great for the musky population!
