Hey all. Never tried fishing quinte. How is it for ice season? Do you need flashers? Are you able to sight fish? Any tips ? I usually just got juicy jimbos at simcoe

I would say flashers/sonars are a necessity. Fish can be very picky and you need to coax them. Not too many areas are shallow enough for site fishing either. It sounds like the rain and wind have opened up most of the ice that had formed last week but hopefully will form again quickly with these cold temps.
There are lots of currents on BOQ which will cause thick ice to become thin ice in only a few steps so please be careful.

During the day I usually start in 25fow and as the day goes on I move around to about 11-15fow. Having a flasher is key as the walleye can become very picky at bait and presentation... If you don't have a flasher I recommend a northland buckshot tipped with a minnow preferably green or perch colours start a few inches off bottom jig than move up a foot jig etc.. I also recommend if you have a smart phone to purchase the app navionics as it will show depths and breaks etc..

Holy moly those are some hogs!!! Now the question do I upgrade to a motorized auger or so I take this advice and get a flasher and hit the bay.... Hmmmmmm so many toy options

I faced that desicion 2 yrs ago, I went with the flasher and haven't regretted it!! When you see a fish on the flasher the game starts, you can see exactly what it is that attracts them, slow jig fast jig still etc trust me having a flasher will up your catch rate by "alot"

I would also choose a flasher over a power auger. This year the ice may not get as thick as previous years. Last year the ice was pushing 3 feet on simcoe. But with a flasher on quinte, you can have an advantage and have better success on catching more fish.

A flasher/fishfinder set up is more important than a power auger, although the power auger is nice. My two go-to baits are buckshots and jigging raps. I like the W9 size rap because there is some strong current at times and you can’t always see your bait on your fish finder unless you have a heavy bait.
