Time for fly tying. I will be making some Simcoe Bugs. Lake Simcoe Jumbo perch just love them!! For anyone interested here is an image that shows how to make them. In the last step the fly is painted with clear nail polish to get that hard shiny finish.

Yes, a few coats of clear nail polish to finish the bug. Make a mini-clothesline with a rubber band and 2 long nails on a board and paint a bunch of them all at once. Then 2 hrs later apply another coat. Yellow body with orange thread is the original simcoe bug. Some guys make different coloured ones, pink and chartreuse bodies.

I used to make these for the kids when they were smaller and I made them in various hook sizes. I changed the weight to a very thin solder wire used for electronics. It was easy to apply, can be shaped for any hook size and a spool goes a long way. put as much as the weight you want the hook to be.

Made some of these jigs on the weekend. I also made some slab grabber spoons,if anyone is interested I can post the plans for the slab grabbers. They work great for big perch and crappie.

Any string or thin diameter yarn is good. I usually just use cotton string, but I was in an Arts & Crafts store with the wife and found some satin cord in the beading section. It has a nice shine to it.
I'll add a pic of slab grabbers in the other post.

Great looking stuff.....
Some tackle shops carry a variety of threads, sealer, etc. for wrapping guides on fishing rods. Great color choices and the colors do not fade. Just another option.
