I pass martindale omw home from work everyday. Its frozen from the pond, out towards the bridge at henley island like last week, although with all this snow that we just got its going to take alot longer for it to thicken up. Didnt even bother checking out the marina with the winds weve had. Cant wait to escape upnorth at the end of the month. My poor equipment has been collecting way too much dust.

Checked the marina today (port D) only half of it has some very unsafe ice, the other half was wide open. Martindale was looking better today, still open water infront of henley island, but its getting there.
The grandstands is starting to get some ice, but not much. Very slow going over there.

I get it but the great part of living in Niagara is getting chrome rainbow in Jan, feb .......the bad part is Ice fishing, some years we get no safe ice, but lots of fishers envy us because we can still fish our long rods for trout. It takes time and lots of hour's to get the hang of Bottom bouncing for trout but once you get it down and get comfortable you'll enjoy the game, I can give you the basics but even me after 20yrs you still have to develope the confidence to hook trout. I'll be honest after all these years of trouting it's being confident in your drift and your technque and not so much your bait.We get lots of winters with no ice or no fish, but I always get chrome in the winter, and trust me once you get your first trout if your a fisher you will want more. Sorry just giving you another option since you live so close to the fishery..........but ya I get it I was hard core ice fishing myself at one time so just saying......if your bottom bouncing CNDN, and want to bounce some ideas off me feel free......I may look unaproachable but introduce yourself man and I'm sure I can help you help you out, get you started, I'm on a bike not hard to find and I know alot about getting trout out of ole Port D, say hello and let me know your name

I walked out on my lunch, did not have an auger with me so i cannot say how thick it was. If you venture out, i would advise you to launch at mdale NOT henley island. That channel has a good current and will probably need more time. Be safe. 1 hut out as seen in picture, felt good just to be on it lol.
