First post here so I hope it's in the right spot, excuse any spelling errors typing this on my phone. What side of Guelph lake do you fish for crappie/perch, I understand that they don't monitor the ice and will check for myself but I've been told by guys who fish there it's about 7 inches thick right now. What size of minnow is best? Is the fishing any good there? Will be one of my first times I've fishing so hoping it's not 100% dead.

I have read it, but I cant seem to tell which side people are going on with all the arguing about legality of it. As stated ill be going on at my own risk obviously. Didnt see minnow size either. Either way I will reread through it and try and find answers. Before then any more help is greatly appreciated! Is Island lake a lot better fishing? Is it worth the extra 20-30 minutes of driving?

Island lake is way better for pike in my opinion. If u go out to guelph lake use smaller minnows as the perch run kinda small out there. Good luck

Awesome! Will definitely try out Island Lake in a little over a week! Those photos of pike got me hooked! Worth it do you think to buy a second ice rod to keep 2 in the water?

If the perch are small at Guelph what would be my best bet other then Simcoe, for catching 8-10 inch perch, ones that are keepers. Looking for anything within 45-1 from Guelph. So no Simcoe, to far for the average day, hoping to get out at least a few times a week, and driving a truck to Simcoe isnt very efficient!

I'm not saying there are "no keeper perch" just saying youay have to catch many dinks before you get into the better quality fish. Good luck

i would stay with guelph lake, if you find them they'll keep you busy, plus you'll catch enough 8-10 inchers for a meal. i might see you on the ice.

Tips to finding them? I went out today just to drill some holes and check ice, didnt have time to do any real fishing, dropped a line for 15 minutes or so, with a ball of yellow styrofoam on the end (Some sort of egg sack they called it) but will be heading out possibly tomorrow to fish for real, hoping to get some perch, so any tips to finding them would be greatly appreciated. Also, saw some huts near the dam, where is the best spot to fish, south or north? Obviously i take the risk of being "Caught" up north but wheres better fishing? Thanks!

"Follow the crowd", if you're fishing in a new to you area the best thing you can do is to fish where the others are fishing. If you saw huts by the dam than that's the first place I would try.
P.s. Have some decency and don't drill your holes next to them.
