We tried shore fishing from the private dock which had ice last weekend but was free of ice on Saturday. Nothing happening after about an hour so we went home and did some paperwork.
Today was a warmer day so we decided to head to a local spot and see if ice fishing would work. About 5 other people were out and ice still looked good so we headed out. The first spot where we caught a bunch last weekend seemed bare so we tried another one. Nothing happening on the screen but all of a sudden my slip bobber was gone and I felt some nice weight on the line. Reeled in a nice 12" jumbo and put it in the bucket with some water. Again, nothing happening until some guys left the ice and said hope we fill our bucket and then another weight on the line, this time an 11" perch.
An hour later, neither of us had any nibbles or anything showing on the screen so we decided to head in. I wasn't in the mood to kill fish today so released them to go make some more jumbos. Since it was such a nice day though, we decided that we still wanted to fish. We left the ice at 1:30, went home, had lunch and a shower and were at our shore fishing spot in town by 3pm.
Fishing was slow at first but became more willing to bite after a while but were on the smaller size. We each caught an 11" perch but released everything today with probably about 30 perch caught in total.
I don't think the ice will hold up to this warm spell but we will see. At least we have options here.
Ice fishing on 7" of decent ice...
