I've been catching hundreds of perch last few weeks with maybe 12 to 15 around the 10 to 12 inch mark and I needed to feel something of a decent size on my line as the only highlight this year so far was my first whitey just over a week ago. After that warm day on Wednesday i decided to try my luck at a lake O trib. Last time out I went for a swim there while trying to break the ice. Today he was wide open. Only problem is the visibility was no more than 6 inches. Started the day solo after work at around 11 and had my first fish a half an hour later. Must have been in the river since fall as it was darker in color but my roe bag was inhaled by the fish and I still had a 4lbs leader on since last time I was out so on the smoker she goes. Met up with a few buddies coming off another trib and they got one each and lost a few. After that was quite for about 2 hours until I got another bite and landed a nice 3.5 chromie for the oven. All in all a great day to be out on the river though I'd prefer to be freezing somewhere out on the lake catching whitefish.
