Smelt fishing locations have become like Speckled trout locations.
A well kept secret ,not to be published on the internet unless you want to see 2000 cars parked in the spot within a couple of hours.

Good luck in getting an answer unless somebody PM's you some locations.

If you do hear anything about a smelt run, it will be two weeks later ,once it's done.
I will give you one hint.

The full moon in April

Now watch the viewed count rise higher and higher with people trying to get some info

Smelt typically only run when the culvert is is jammed full, there's no room to swim through, and some need to hop out of the creek and cross over the road to the other side. If there's headlights coming at them, then and only then do they run.

I have to agree with RHYBAK. A smelt location today is a truely well guarded secret. The one and only well known spot is the Niagara river by Queenston.........good luck finding a spot!

As for a spot on any of the lakes, creeks, streams you will have to put your time in watching and observing others, maybe chatting with and sharing a cold beverage with some known anglers.

The last 10 smelts I saw had "run" out of time, as I found them inside the stomach of this guy...

Ah I think TD is onto something here...........a Cessna 172 on skis should be able to find some very nice backwater ice fishing lakes
