Went for a drive today up north where this morning it was -19 and felt like -23 with the wind. Gorgeous sunny day with very little wind soon turned into a very pleasant late morning and afternoon. If only the fish were biting I couldn't have asked for a better day. Marking almost non stop all day but they were very skittish and would dissappear as quickly as they came. Then finally it happened. A tap, a hook set and I am on. Get the fish to the hole and seeing as it wasn't a big one I tried to horse it out onto the ice and I guess I got a knick in my leader and the line just snapped. Luckily this year I got into the habit of keeping the gaff next to the hole and was able to gaff it before it slipped back down. All in all besides forgetting the sunblock and getting burned it was a fabulous day out on the lake. Took the quad today, will be walking out next weekend if weather permits.
