Trailer lights rear submersabile

i was wondering if anyone has been experiencing any water leaking into there trailer lights when launching the boat. i have had to replace the bulb a few times. anyone using the led type? or something that wont leak?

I just unplug mine before I back in?

When I'm ready leave after I pull the boat out, the last thing I do is Hook up the lights.

They have had a chance to drain and I have never had a problem.

They last just as long as the lights I find and I drilled holes in the bottoms to let drain out only if they are over a year hold

Good advice above. Also give the sockets a shot of Rust Check once a year.

I've had led lights on two of my trailers and never unplug them, they've never let me down. My first two boats were old bulb style and once I started to unplug them before launching they held up better. If you ever have to replace the whole light fixture, LEDs are the way to go though. Not only do they last way longer, they're much brighter,( if the guy behind you can see better, that's better for everyone).

Although I am switching to LED's this week because my buddy never has to unplug on his.

Princess auto had the rear led submersible lights package on sale the last time I was in there. Never really looked at the price.

unplug 'em when at the launch. Beginning of each season remove the bulbs and use a wire brush to remove any corrosion on the bulb and socket and use some dialectric grease before reinstall.

When we picked up our new trailer we kept blowing bulbs not knowing they werent submersible enclosures. We quickly switched so a submersible enclosure, and have never had to unplug the trailer lights again.

Why a new boat trailer doesnt come with lights that can go under water is beyond me.

If you don' have to rush putting them on, keep an eye out at Princess Auto as they go on sale for 50% quite often for $15 or so.

X3 on the unplugging the trailer if using the bulb style. Saves you the hassle of changing the bulbs all the time.
