I didn't realize people eat grayling, seen them on fishing shows and they just catch and release and never mention about eating

Yes Fishmagnet,
I fried them up in flour and oil like a regular pan fry fish,in my trusty 5 l.b. Black beauty.
With beans, onions and mushrooms right on my tailgate right beside the river where I slept in the back of my pickup for a couple of days.

There's not a lot I won't try eating. I grew up on Beef Brains,Beef Tongue Sandwiches and Blood Sausage on the farm and I love Haggis.

This was our setup by the river in the NWT. ran up and down on the ice as it was melting. This picture was actually up north while scouting for moose.
I am glad I now know someone else who ate brains. We used to shoot a deer or moose, crack the skull and mixed the brains with eggs onions peppers and spicy Hungarian kolbas. Also beef tongue in tomato sauce over a bed of rice. Man those were the days. Thanks for the memories.

Well,my parents are Russian/Ukrainian immigrants from 1945. They settled in Manitoba first, then lived in the twin cities Port Arthur and Ft. William (ThunderBay). My dad worked on the CN Rail laying tracks,so we ate a lot of moose brain/tongue and nose as well as the rest of the moose. A European delicacy!

Your welcome Bob! Memories and pics are great!

N.G.

I absolutely love reading the "food reviews" and experiences from both of you. Spicy Hungarian kolbasz.........wow. Childhood memories. You should write a book N.G. Clearly you have many experiences worth sharing.

The willingness to at least try different foods and or foods from other countries is the most wonderful way to go. Too many folks just shut down their willingness to give something a try, to appreciate what is out there.

N.G......... You come from a very hearty background. Your parents have ever reason to be proud of your successes and for continuing the traditions they set for you. You are always willing to help others...... You truly are the "outdoors man" we all wish we could be.

Me, I get crap from the city folks when I eat blowfish, squid, crickets, live lobster, natto, TONNAGE of Korean food, sashimi tuna by the truck load, lion, rattle snakes, pike in aspic............ I even carry tubes of wasabi in every fishing bag. Our spicy tuna hand rolls are the size of an ice cream drumstick.

It's all good, but again, reading your experiences... brains, moose.......way too cool.

Many thanks for sharing..................
