So the first time i actually started catching fish through the ice was this year, after Icefishing Simcoe for the last 5 and not catching much i thought id try some back lake fishing. With some research and scouting I had finally found some honey holes all within an hour of Orillia. My first Day was by far The best. A friend an i had pulled up to a brook trout lake north of Minden with only 3 hours to fish, we jumped out of the car and started the 1k hike in. 45 minutes later we had holes drilled and lines set. As i was pulling a piece of dogwood from the shore to set our last line i saw my first line go down, I sprinted over and with one hook set and a good tug i pulled out my first ever Speckled trout. We ended up catching two more to make the day even better (fish from this trip are the ones on the cutting board). Ive always wanted to catch Specks but never thought it would be so close to home. My advice start researching lakes that you wouldn't think to fish, there might be some beauties hidden close to home! Here are some pictures from the ice season, Fish In pictures are splake and brookies from multiple lakes i had most luck with them this year!

Awesome! I'm no pro by any means how ever it appears that some of these fish appear to be Splake with more predominant fork like tails rather than the square tail brookies are known for.Any other opinions?
