I gave mine away years ago. Even with a sled or an ATV it was a nuisance to transport and haul off and on the ice. I hate trailering anything so I've gone to a pop-up which sits securely on the ATV or sled rack beside the auger. I can't imagine walking the folding sled in and out on the ice with any amount of snow or slush present.

1/2 plywood is all I ever used with Smitty sled . I also made one with 12'' high plywood box then built fold up on that this made lot's of room to store gear with my 300 Olympic I roamed the lake from Bear point to Fox Island for trout.

By the time you spend money on material's and time you can buy a 1 man flip up for that kind of money. . The Spring show is usually in Feb at The International Centre By the airport. You might be able to get one cheap because it's late into the ice fishing season and they may want to get rid of them instead of keeping then in storage for next year. Just a thought.

I've built the exact same thing in the past and the best advice I got is to get an old pair of ski's and put them on the bottom it makes a huge difference. As for weight wise it doesn't make a huge difference.

Base and seat all together and glued. Still have to cut in the lower section of the door. The reason the front section is higher is to allow the front section to lie flat on the back when it is folded down.

It will be mounted on the skis for easy pulling on the snow and ice. More pics to follow when I get a chance to do some more work on it which will hopefully be tonight. The seat height is designed to allow putting 5gallon buckets underneath for storage and extra support of the seat. Want to get it at least almost done so I can take it for its first run Monday.

Front and rear walls attached with piano hinges and folded down in the travel position. Door stops not installed yet making the door look a tad wonky. Tomorrow I will make the bar supports and start to attach the tarp b4 I have to head out.

Finished the shanty. Ready for the Virgin run Saturday morning if all goes well. At the moment there are 2 coats of Thompsons on it and will wait a couple of weeks before doing the paint. Is like to thank everyone for their comments and help. Also a special thanks to Moonman for his excellent feedback and guidance. We spent over a 1/2 hr on the phone talking over options, how tos and ideas.
