Acton explorer.I take two pairs on each trip. The explorer for hardcore conditions and a lighter -40 version for in a hut, warmer, slush type conditions.

Also nice to be able to put on hardcore boots first thing and then as the day goes on to switch to a lighter boot.

No matter what kind of boot it is always nice to change your socks and or your boot liner mid day.

This makes a huge difference.

And always dry your boots and liners out at every opportunity, mid day break if you get one, overnight for sure

I also use a 2 sock system,a thin polypropylene sock to wick moisture away and a thicker sock for warmth

Also calculate the level of activity in a boot, sock choice. When I go out and drill I will use a lighter boot than at 4 to 6 pm with the sun setting and you are on your pre drilled holes and are stationary,I go back to hardcore

If I was out all day with no chance to change boots or dry liners,I would go hardcore and bring a change of socks

If going into a remote area, make sure somebody in your group has a tube of shoe glue, stuff happens at the worst times.

Nats- no reason to change socks or dry out. The liners wick moisture amazing.. Some days don't even wear socks, they are good and super light.

We were just checking out my buddies nats last night. There super light weight. Almost like a pair of crocs for winter lol. And they have a liner that comes out easy. He says there warm and has had his for 3 years and they still are in good shape. Might be my next pair

The CKX Muk Boots I mentioned earlier are by Nats.
Google them.

Ordered these.
Sent them back and got titans instead.

The muks are super light but i cannot see them lasting anywhere close to what the titans will.

The sole is made out of EVA which is usually a midsole material because its comfy but doesn't wear well as a sole... YMMV though... just my initial thoughts on the boots and the reason I sent them back.

I thought the same thing at first with my Nats. Not just a weekend warrior, I wear them all winter for work and into my 4th year.
They don’t look tough but certainly standing up.
No heater needed to dry outside of liner, just remove and dry quick is a good feature. Old boot drier collecting dust.

Lighter then my semmer shoes and good till -90 now cant say ive ever been close to that but had them on up in timmins in - 30 and never felt a thing. Nats liners wore out after 4 years bout new ones for 20 bucks. So my vote nats or gks both sold at sail for round140 ish got my gks on sale for 89.99

I definitely like the looks of the Titans. I have 800 gram Irish Setters I use bow hunting but know they be no good ice fishing. And the fact can't remove the liners. Thanks guys.

Baffins are not great for walking in, though, in case you were planning on possibly using for hunting or whatever.

Exactly! Very warm and comfy but suck for any long walks.

Hmmm. Kinda leaning towards the Nats for the light weight. I like to hike into back lakes for the piece and quiet. Anybody know where in or around Peterborough that sells Nats?

I heard GKS Expedition is a real good and comfy boot. I use my work boots (Dunlop Explorer Vibram Fire and Ice Boot) with the booties that you can buy and they work pretty good. Their sole is almost two inches thick so the cold from the ice doesn't bother you and they are warm. I wore them last year ice fishing in -30 and was good to go..... Expensive though, and if you are going to walk a few km's, they start to aggravate.
