The three amigos headed up to their preferred Muskoka back lake for a day of very good fishing despite snow squalls blowing in from the southwest. (In fact, between the wind and snow, Knuguy and Allan finally made the call late in the day to retreat into the pop-up and fire up the heater.)

We had set up in 63 fow and, within minutes of our arrival, were on fish. Once again, small white tubes and minnows on a slip bobber did the trick. Between the three of us, we landed 9 of 10 lakers and, just before packing it in for the day at 2:30 PM, Allan landed a burbot capping off a very productive day.

Well done Michael

Your day was certainly more successful than mine on Simcoe.

QUOTE (Michael Kerwin @ Jan 17, 2018 - 11:19 pm)
In fact, between the wind and snow, Knuguy and Allan finally made the call late in the day to retreat into the pop-up and fire up the heater.)

Nary a mention by the author that he retreated to his warm little cubby hole right away!

DB. Alan caught his lunker on a monstrous 3" or so white squid but he wasn't using a bobber----he's not a convert yet, by MK is at least sometimes! Too bad he didn't put something familiar in his pix so you could see the size.

FF---joking aside, the last thing on our mind in that cold wind was having a cold beer!!

Yes, it was a blast in general, but Alan cut his thumb on the auger blade on the first hole. He was a bit taken aback of just how easily it happened.

During the 2 hrs or so in the tent the FF showed lots of peepers, lookers, window shoppers but hardly a nibble apart from Alan's burbot. Reinforces the idea that the main purpose of a FF is to entertain the fishermen so he doesn't get bored or frustrated and give up! . W/O the FF we would have assumed there were no fish down there.
