I'm heading back to Picton for a return trip to Merland Park in a little over a week and was wondering if anyone has been to the area recently and could shed some light on the bass fishing in the area? I did pretty well there last year, but it was more toward the end of summer. Not looking for specific holes, just a general idea of success rates and time of day for the best results. I'll be there for 4 nights. Thanks in advance.

If you were catching towards the end of summer, I would say focus on those same areas. It also depends on what you are fishing from. For me, it's all out of the kayak, so I don't put in long paddles, rather I will strap it to the car, unload, and go from there (cottage on Adolpus Reach). That said, I would try up around Glen Island- bass and walleye- fish it between the island and mainland. Also, the shoreline north from the ferry to the island has held some big ones as well as to the little bay just east of the ferry on the north shore. Lions Island all around it, and the bay to the east on north shore are also productive. As for time of day, I fish the mid day. The thing is, bass can almost be found anywhere in this area.It all depends on your sense of adventure.

Thanks so much Swiftdeer. I did fish in Mallory Bay a couple of times last year out to Thompson Point (where I caught two really nice pike), but I didn't go the other direction toward Glen Island. I'll definitely give that area the once-over. And the area around Lions Is. looks very "bassy" as well. You're right....it pays to be a bit more adventurous!! Thanks again.
