I have a buddy who is looking to put up a couple of trail cams at his cabin up by Gooderham.

Was wondering if the people who have experience using these can answer the following questions.

How long do the batteries last in the cold on average (he will probably be a couple of weekends between visits)?

What do you recommend for makes/models/resolution?

Cell service is marginal at best and he doesn't want to install an expensive security system as he doesn't leave any expensive belongings around.

He is looking for something that can capture pictures of anyone coming up his driveway and "snooping" around, as he found tire tracks and footprints all around his cottage when he went up last weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

ive had good luck with stealth cam . spend money on good lithium battery's will last a long time even in the cold depends on amount of photos taken. Ive seen lock boxes for them as well not sure if they are worth it.

Mount them high and point them down, they are harder to spot that way.

X2

Nothing worse than foot prints and missing trail cams

Thanks for the tips. He has lots of trees leading up his driveway, so hiding them shouldn't present much of a problem.

I told him to get one and leave it outside where he lives in Markham so that it takes pictures and is out in the cold (no where near as cold as up North) so he can see what it performs like.

Thanks again.

just remember that putting it high up means you can see their faces. That the main problem with mounting any security camera.

I'm a fan of "Wildgame Innovations" cameras. (Have 3 of them) I find them to be really good bang for the buck, and seem to excellent on battery life. I'll only replace the batteries at start of the season(October) and have left out til Feb/Mar and still working. Have friends and family with other brands that seem to gobble up the batteries.
I wouldn't break the bank on cameras,as if somebody does scoop it on you,it doesnt hurt so bad.
Also, add a couple of screws when mounting.

(Have 1 of these,2 of older model)
