I was able to fish again same lake north of Peterborough on Dece. 13 and 17. A bit more ice than on Dec. 11. First day, caught 4 largemouth bass (and this time I remembered, I was able to keep them so did - all about 1lb or so), 15 crappie a few sunfish and a couple of rock bass. Dec. 17 (again just a bit more ice) - 4 largemouth bass again (this time all released because the season closed Dec. 15) and kept 14 of 20 crappies caught (mostly in the 9-10 inch range), Also caught and released 4 or 5 sunfish and a perch. It was quite windy and the ice was making a bit of noise as the temps started to drop but the ice was in good shape then. Decent fishing both days, never went more than about 10 minutes without a bite. Lost a lure to something larger and toothy. Sorry for the late post - too many Xmas things to do over the last few days.

Thanks for the post and nice to read about ice fishing. Has anyone ice fished Rice yet? Guessing it is not solid enough, but just curious. It should be soon, with the cold weather coming.

Thanks guys. It was good to start the ice fishing early and really cool to be able to still keep some bass. I don't fish Rice during the ice fishing season but from another post, it sounds like parts of Chemong is good to go (8" of ice). Good luck. Hope Simcoe will be soon as well.

Went to Rice today, pretty slow with a strong E wind and snow. Lots of tiny perch and a few better fish which I never landed. 1 broke the line, one played for awhile but slipped off. Probably walleye. Kept one crappie, had a flurry of bites at dusk but couldn't get a hook-up. The ice was very smooth, slick and between 4-6 inches. Cdn Tire has cleats on sale for 7.99 - worth it today. Cheers
