Cow moose?, WHY

If they "close" the moose season for 3-5 yrs it will end up being like the spring bear season and go on for years! BAD IDEA

There are many ways to go about assisting in the rebounding of the moose population and first and foremost is controlling the wolf and bear population and the serious effect it has on the moose. Allow moose hunters to legally harvest a wolf on a moose licence( and pay minimal for a bear licence for the fall season make it more feasible and more hunters will harvest predators

Secondly is insuring that there is some sort of control with the First Nation harvest and that they don't take advantage of their rights and this starts with the MNRF , Gov't Officials implementing strict guidelines for them to follow and adhere to(yeah I know fat chance)

AND shorten the bloody seasons....or better yet issue tags for different times of the year
Certain amount of tags for certain times of the Fall season

this way hunters can apply depending on the season and the later the hunt the "more" tags available

I know it has been said before but it needs to be acted on NO MORE CALF LICENSES!!!!!!!!!

Mortality rate of calfs statistically is high from winter conditions, predators etc. but one thing is for 100% sure if I shoot a calf that is 1 less moose for sure.

It would be hard for the MNRF to control this, for those that don't know, First Nations fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government not the provincial government. Aboriginal rights fall under the Constitution Act and are protected by treaties, which the provincial government was not involved in negotiating under most circumstances, unless they happen to be modern day treaties in which case the provincial gov. MAY be party to.

For the last 10 years i could have shot bull cow or calf every year during the controlled deer hunt in the orillia area. So many moose they actually pushed the deer out. No moose season so the population keeps growing.
Sad to see some people struggle for a tag when they are so plentiful south of the legal hunting areas

If the moose population is hurting sooo bad then it is probably the mnrf should bag up some of our spare turkeys and trade them back to the States FOR MOOSE!!!! Would that work.

Good idea or another option is for every one not to apply for moose and take your money else were and be guarantee a tag . I’m not trying to say everyone needs a bull tag but if groups have been apply for years and never received a adult tag it’s ridiculous and money grab. If you add up on what it costs and the money spent to go moose hunting in Northern Ontario, it doesn’t make sense to hunt here any more . Cheaper to be garantee a tag, guided hunt and a lot less rules to hunt outside of Canada .

Actually, the moose population is rebounding. Found that out talking with MNRF senior wildlife biologist for Kenora. The 2015 survey showed that he said. Also it turns out that the goals that MNR had prior to 2015 was to double the moose population which he said they finally realized was not realistic since habitat on average cannot sustain much more over 35 moose per hundred square km. He told me though that since 2015 they set realistic goals for moose, however the number of tags didn't increase until now. Maybe in the future.
As far as suspending moose hunting for a year or two, I think is a bad idea. I agree to stop giving calf tags to everybody that applies and I would suggest that if you win a cow tag to also get automatically two calf tags so that if the cow you shoot has calves they are not left pray to predators or starvation.
I would also think is a good idea to get more bull tags than cow allocated to the draw since a bull moose, same like deer impregnates multiple cows, and all hunters getting a buck tag seems to work fine in controlling deer population.
