My brother in law and I always team up for the shotgun deer hunt in the first week of November. Monday started out rainy with 2 bucks and four does spotted at first light in a cornfield. The one buck was too small but the bigger one needed to come closer. They were both working my way but suddenly turned and walked into the bush to follow a doe.
We took a break for lunch and headed out for an evening sit . I watched four does most of the night but no bucks appeared. My partner was watching a swampy/grassy bedding area when a buck appeared out of the swamp grass. One shot and a forty yard dash and he was down.
Tuesday we hunted in pouring rain and monsoon winds and saw some deer but nothing we wanted to hang our last tag on.
Wednesday morning broke with calmer winds and less rain . I saw no deer but my brother in law had 3 bucks around his stand for an hour when the biggest bodied deer offered a 15 yard broadside shot. He made no mistake and the 7 point piled up 40 yards away. This filled our tags and ended our hunt.
Most groups are seeing fewer deer than other years and the weather didn’t help.
