Well was quite the year for me and boy. Boy gets his first buck, and I get my 1st and 2nd buck in many many years. Was thinking was going to be a good year but not seeing to many as we got the only 2 deer we saw, until Dec 24th when I saw 30 with only a few small fawns in shooting spots. Then boxing day this 4pt comes by at 930, just as I was going to start to pack up. So in the end did seen lots of deer and was a great year. I having trouble post a picture. If i figure it out later on I will post a picture

I hunted north 8 days I think and saw nothing this was bow hunting. Of the 33 or so deer we saw all were local. I really like going north rifle hunting, but haven't seen deer in a long time. It hard to keep going up for a week not seeing anything, and then see lots locally bow hunting. Most of the deer I see locally are in December. This is the first year boy and I have even seen deer before December and we both got one in October.

Ya I figured you might answer along those lines. The deer just don’t seem to be as plentiful up north these last couple of years. I’m sure it will bounce back as everything seems to have its cycles, I just think it’s gonna take a while. I’m actually going to look in to a crossbow for next season so I can hunt for a bit longer. I usually rifle hunt but with a young family it’s hard to go away for long periods of time these days. At least I’d be able to spread out my hunting to a few weekends type thing. We’ll see what happens I guess. Also I should mention, it’s really nice you hunt with your boy. I hunt with my dad, we have great times that I’ll never forget. Congrats again on a great hunt!

you should take it back up if you can, so many more opportunities with a bow. I do miss rifle hunting, shotgun fills in some of the gap, but I haven't been drawn for a controlled hunt in 3 years.

just an FYI,
Those who ice fish in the Calander area and may make future plans to hunt, think again.
Last year in a 20 km radius around the town of Callander, I know of 3 trappers who trapped 82 wolves. The MNR have told them to bury most of them as they have mange. That area should only have 12 in total.
So far this year they have tapped 21. Why am I telling you this??
Because deer are scarce as a result of all the wolf activity in the last few years.
Hopefully the deer rebound soon. Don't waste your time or money hunting in 47. I know of a gang of 12 that hunted for a week and did not see brown.
