What an awesome opening morning. Crisp clear and not a breathe of wind had all the makings of a great hunt. Almost on cue the tom started gobbling on the roost singles, double, triple combos. Sounded off to every crow or goose call had me almost shaking in anticipation. Really more to see what he respond to and found the slate and glass didn't bring a reaction but a whelp on the copper got a response.
At fly down got a bit discouraged when about a dozen hens left the bush being trail by a nice looking Tom. Didn't take long for him to round up his harem and off they went crossed 2 fields and entered the bush on the far side of the property. Than it went quiet. Settled back to ponder my next move. Around 9:30 am laid the gun down next too me and took a little power nap. Sixth sense kicker in when I opened my eyes and had a pair of jakes dancing amongst the decoys. First thought was try and get the gun than decide what to do. Really wasn't too hard to get the gun up and a bead on the bigger of the two birds. Than I had to decide pass on the bird on the hope the tom will make his way around later that day or tag a Jake and be eating turkey tender finger for dinner.
Well gluttony trumps vanity and a 10 yard shot closed out the day at 10AM.
Had to tuck the head away to pretty up the picture.

Back for round 2 come Tuesday as don't like hunting in the rain if I can avoid it.
