Newfoundland trip, HELP

Hi guys need some help

Im heading out to newfoundland st johns and fogo island in early june for some sight seeing with the family and was planning on doing some fishing.

has anyone been out there? if so what should I bring with me and what fish should I be targeting.

any info would help.

My wife and I took a motoring tour through Newfoundland mid June a few years back and we found the touring really great. We went all over the island and found it to be quite fascinating. Watch out for the moose on the roads as there were plenty of them walking along, across and standing by the highways. We saw plenty moose on the roads and also saw black tire/skid marks on the road surfaces where truckers slammed on the brakes because of moose on the highways. Drive carefully. Take warm clothing and raingear as you will be early for consistently warm, dry weather. We ran into a lot of rain and a lot of cool temperatures. You may want to check what the weather will be like before you go since you will be in a fairly northerly area. We found that touristy stuff doesn't open up until mid-June at the earliest. I've heard that there are lots of icebergs this year and there should be plenty of them for you to see. Pick up at your earliest convenience the fishing regulations for the province. I had taken my fishing rod with me but after reading the Newfoundland fishing regulations, decided not to fish because of all the restrictions for an outsider. Although some local fishermen were fishing for salmon mid-June, it was still on the early side. So, I decided to talk to the fishermen and enjoyed watching them fish but never saw anybody catch anything. It may be a different story if you are going with an outfitter or guide or staying at a resort. We did the B&B thing as we mostly toured the island. Keep I mind that Newfoundland is a hugh island and some things are not as close as you think. So, make sure that you have the maps to guide you.There are lots of wonderful things to see in the way of nature things and a lot of historical stuff in St. Johns. We are hoping to go back again one day as it truly is a beautiful place. Enjoy your trip. Hope you do get in some fishing.

I was reading a lot online and saw a lot of people talking about the regulations..
the last thing I want to do is break any laws and come back with a nasty ticket.

never seen a moose in person yet really stoked to see one of those beauties.

ill be staying at a couple Airbnb and I talked to one of the land owners who said they would be happy to show me a couple of spots...hopefully can talk to a some local fishermen aswell.

another question how did u bring ur rod over just in a rod bag and then check it in and pay for it? how much does it cost to check a rod bag if this is what u did?

Check the rules for fishing tidal waters in NFLD, I know in Cape Breton you do not need a license to fish in tidal waters. I know at home the tidal waters can include rivers that run out into the ocean up to a certain point before you need a license as well. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Good if you are just looking to do a bit of fishing, check with the locals when you get there, I am sure they will be willing to give you some good advise.

I believe no license for all tidal Waters. Just make sure your in tidal waters by checking the regs... In New Brunswick the regs are pretty good and clear what constitutes tidal Waters.
We get stripped bass, flounder, polluck, smelt and just about everything thats in the Bay of Fundy..

Regarding your query of transportation of the fishing rod, we drove from Ontario to the east coast so it was just "stick it in the back of the car" with some protection. I don't know of the complications/cost/etc. with other methods of traveling with a fragile rod. Many fishing stores do sell both hard cover as well as soft cover fishing rod cases. breakwater - okay that must have a been a nice drive a lot of beautiful scenery on the way. I got myself a hard rod travel bag at cabelas 2 weeks ago they were on sale for 20 bucks. thanks for the help and advice!

i am going down in sept. trying to avoid nasty weather flying into st johns car rental and off we go looking forward to it

when are you going nice weather in sept prices shouold be down kids back in school
