I was there with my wife and kids 3 years ago in August. We took a couple rods with us. As I remember we had to buy a fresh water license and you could only fish so close to the ocean. NO salmon fishing aloud unless you hired a guide or was related to a resident of Newfoundland. I just went to a fishing store in Gander I believe and the store owner gave me the run down. Pretty much every river we fished we caught small brown trout on spinners. Good luck and have a great trip

did you buy the license there at the fishing shop or did u get it prior to your visit
We always bought our licenses at a service NL. The price was about $12.00 per person and a 12 spec limit. You cannot fish specs in a salmon river without a salmon license as outlined in the regs. You can fish cod fish only during the recreational fishery. http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/decisions/fm-2018-gp/atl-18-eng.htm This is for 2018 for reference but the 2019 fishery should be similar. 2019 hasn't been posted yet. We always used a victor spinner and worm rig or fly fish. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun. You should have an awesome time.

I would contact the airline you are flying with for clarification. If you cannot carry it on I would highly suggest you buy a hard case and lock for your rods.....I used to work at Pearson so I am advising from experience

I think they charge about 30 bux for a piece of luggage one way. For the limited amt of fishing you'll be doing maybe you should just buy a cheap one when you're there and give it to some kid when you leave.

Trip was amazing guys… fished almost everyday… caught a bunch of smaller sized speckled trout. Saw a couple ice bergs, saw one whale, saw one big a$$ hawk, visited a couple of the tourist points. Food was unreal nothing beats eating freshly caught fish everyday. One day we went for breakfast and got over easy eggs, home fries and a fresh lobster tail. One of the best breakfast iv had in a while. Fogo island was something else beautiful place, friendly people, amazing fishing and amazing food. Didn’t get to see a moose tho. All together trip was a huge success, thanks to everyone who gave me tips and pointers really appreciate it! (pics to follow)
