Fishing charges
Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers have issued a number of warnings and charges during a three-day enforcement blitz this month in regions including Peterborough, targeting live non-baitfish being sold along with baitfish.
Warnings and charges for fish and wildlife-related offences, included:
Possession of live non-baitfish species including sunfish, yellow perch, crayfish, bullhead, largemouth bass, snails and frogs
Failing to inspect baitfish at the time of sale
Failing to properly filter the discharge water from bait tanks
Transporting live fish other than baitfish
Stocking fish into waters without a licence
Failing to keep required records
Selling baitfish without the authority of a licence
Selling fish roe without the authority of a licence
Possession of more than 120 baitfish without a commercial bait licence.
The conservation officers also seized a significant number of live non-baitfish species, preventing them from being introduced into waters across southern Ontario by anglers.
Anglers are reminded that baitfish species are the only live fish they may possess for use as bait.
