Headed out for a fish on Thursday with " Grass hopper " for a day to see if the salmon were still co-operative ..
Arrived early at 6am , lines in water at 6:30 , let line out , 100' didn't even get in release ..fish on , yep their still there ,
We landed about 15 , all sizes and a couple lakers , variety of baits , body and spoons trolling a little quicker this time 1.4-1.7 mph , 50-140 fow ..Very light to no winds for a change
Wanted to try my new toy , diawa mooching reel with a 9' ugly stik , you can land a truck with this rig
Used these back in my charter days for the guys that wanted some thing different ,direct drive and a ton of fun ..
Kept 9 fish and had a great day with great company ( might have to change his handle )..A couple pix of my power rig ..

Amazing! Only caught salmon out with a buddy who knows what he is doing on Lake Ontario but that's not until late June. Any tips on where to even start and whether or not its doable without downrigging? Those fillets look absolutely stunning!

Nice catch! We got out a bit with my wife and my youngest son just to enjoy the water a little bit before dark. It was an amazing day out there that's for sure! Going out tomorrow at 5:30 am with my buddy for his birthday, hopefully, we can get into some as well!

Headed out for a last shot today with " Grass hopper " (think he deserves a promotion ), Ran the Meaford area , very few marks ended up getting 1 laker, 2 chinooks and an atlantic , the atlantic was about 2 lbs and was fin clipped , anyone have an idea where it came from ?? Fish were caught 110 ' down over 150 fow , our last trip for the area , setting our sites on new territory..

You can thank Michigan DNR for that Atlantic Salmon steelheader…
They've been stocking close to 200,000 in lake huron since 2013 I believe in an attempt to give anglers something different to catch after the chinook pretty much disappeared. Just google it and some articles will come up. There are quite a few of these Atlantics being caught over the past few springs, I just haven't been lucky enough to get one.
Here the MNR just stocks more and more lake trout that nobody really wants...
