June 15th Report

We headed out on Friday afternoon for a bit of walleye action. Lake was fairly calm so headed up towards Bobcaygeon. Not too much action deep so we tried a drifting over a few holes and hubby managed a 10" perch and then caught a 12.5" eye. Unfortunately under the slot so back it went as well as the perch. We then tried Sturgeon point but nothing biting. On to the big bay in front on Snug and I finally hooked into 3 perch and a sunfish but that was it. We were using jigs and twister tails as well as a bit of trolling. Decided to stay home today since we have been neglecting the yardwork and it would have been a hot one out there and tomorrow visiting the in-laws for Fathers Day. Hoping to get back up next Friday but we are painting the house so not sure if we will get out another day or not but I'm sure lake will be busy for bass opener on Saturday.

Thanks for the report, sounds like you had a nice afternoon on the lake.
I have caught walleye in that large bay in Snug, I usually troll the drop-off at around 16 fow just as the weeds start to thin out.. Bottom bouncing, worm harnesses.

Trolling the river channel in the evening can also be good.

Thanks for the tips Jerry, you are a wealth of fishing knowledge. I will try the 16ft dropoff as that is new to me but do know about the channel. We snapped a fin off our prop last year and had to drive extremely slow back to the dock so I decided to troll and caught 2 small muskie in the process. The channel does get quite busy sometimes so it can be a little crazy fishing it.

Yes, only fish the channel in the off hours, dawn and dusk.. Other times, you will have lots of big boats coming through, that make the fishing difficult.

I used to fish Sturgeon Lake years ago.. It can be a tough lake to fish, but walleye numbers seemed pretty steady year-to-year.

We do pretty good with walleye but the last couple of years it has mainly been small cigars. When we do catch an eater, it is usually only one, so I end up putting it back. Bass seem to be our best fish to catch and then musky in the fall. I think we have got in a rut with using the same areas to fish and have not explored a great deal of the lake. I need to make an effort to try to find more fish producing areas. Another problem is that my hubby hates fishing weeds and having to clean the hook off all the time but that is where the fish usually are.

Rule. I usually stick to when river fishing and also works for lakes as well . loll


Getting snagged is simply part of the technique.
“If your not getting snagged, you're not fishing in the right place”.


Nothing beat's being out on the water , especially with the lady

That's what I keep telling him, you need to be in the weeds. One day I will convert him or at least get him to use weedless jigs.
