I tried to find the posts on this topic from the Spring of 2018. No luck.
The individual in question was William Krueger from East Tawas, Michigan, and the total fine with costs was $16,317.50.
We were all expressing concern about his "major" overfishing and how do we know if this ever gets paid as the courts don't have available to them the same tools as they do for a Canadian resident.
In the Spring of 2018 I checked with the Court office in Thunder Bay and learned how the costs had been included in the fine and that he had 12 months to pay, but could request an extension to that time frame.
I followed up with the Court office in Thunder Bay today and learned that he has made payments on the fine and has requested an extension. My contact would not tell me the amount remaining unpaid, except to say it is substantial.
As confirmed in the Spring of 2018, if he does not pay it is their procedure to turn matters over to a collection agency to obtain payment.
I have diarized things to check with the Court office in 12 months.

Thanks SD, funny how they can come up with the money to plan a trip, but try to stretch out the time for payment, maybe she should pay the full amount with his credit card and suffer the interest.

i think SD is just following up to ease his conscience to see if the courts are trying to enforce their penalties and us tax paying citizens are not getting a screwing by footing the court costs and any other outstanding debt. if foreigners wan to come and enjoy our great country full of outdoor activities then they need to respect our laws. i work for a company that prints labels. we just printed a ;label that i bare on my truck window with pride. it states "FIT IN OR ###### OFF" written over a Canadian flag. sorry for the vulgarity with the wording but i believe in the words sorry if this is taken as a rant pickerel24
As I said at the start of this thread, back in 2018 Forum members very upset with this blatant overfishing and we were all concerned in terms of how do we know if this gets paid as he is not a resident of Canada. If you are a Canadian and have been fined like this, they can revoke your drivers license if you don't pay. They don't have that leverage on a non-resident.
If it doesn't get paid, it is meaningless to impose the fine and our natural resources have been greatly abused.
I took it upon myself to contact the Court, to let them know that we (the Forum members)were concerned and that I proposed to monitor progress to ensure this was not allowed to slip out of sight.
So, I have lots of hobbies and holding people accountable for their actions/inactions is one of them. I wanted to let the Court know that a large group of people were interested in this case to ensure they do all possible to collect the fine.
So, if you "don't get it" it says a lot about you!!

A sad part is the court system having to turn their fine (penalty) over to a collection agency for the substantial amount owing. "Now there's a lot of 'teeth' in that legal system....!" NOT. A collection agency will harass in the hopes of getting pennies on the dollars owed. If they ever collect.

I just reread the article .....he stole the fish out of a Provincial Park. That’s taking fish from any kid that wets a line in our park system.
I say we band together and vote SD as Provincial Fine Collector and turn him loose on this scumbag.
Also funny how this guy can afford a boat ,truck and trailer but can’t pay his fines.
I've often said to my wife that it is a good job I am not part of the Judiciary system, because if I was, I would be known as the "hanging judge"!!
IMO, at the time he was apprehended, his truck, trailer and boat should have all been impounded and only released to him after the fine was imposed and PAID IN FULL.

SDC
Totally agree with this
x2 no consequence and they will never learn
I also blame the media, who just write sensational article one after another, day in and day out and never follow up on anything to give the public the "real news" and tell us what is truly happening.
Seems no one wants to enforce the rules, collect fines, follow-up, and do the research... After all that's "work"..
Thanks again Ralph, for doing the work on this one and everything else..
