Hello everyone. I just registered here as I am quite impressed with all the helpful people and this site in general. Nice job admins!

Anyway, I've been shore fishing ever since I can remember but I just acquired my license just to be able to use a trolling motor on my 9' inflatable. So new, in fact that I just completed the finishing touches to the home-made PVC transom I built for the motor I just picked up a couple hrs ago. lol.

I'm from Hamilton and will be heading to Lion's Head to our cottage this Saturday for a week. We're steps away from the marina / lighthouse on Georgian Bay. Lake Huron (Sandy Beach area) is about 10 min from there as well. I enjoy fishing for the perch off the government docks but now that I have the means, I'd like to go for some bigger game.

Like I said, I'm quite the newb so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Meaning, if anyone knows the area I'm talking about, could you please give me some general pointers as far as where to fish, the species that are actually there, and basic trolling techniques. I'm not unintelligent but please remember to keep it simple as I don't know all the different terms in regards to trolling.

All I have at my disposal at the moment is:
  • Intex Seahawk 4 inflatable boat
  • 30 lbs thrust Minn Kota Trolling motor
  • Deep Cycle Battery
  • Spincast rod / reels
  • Variety of small / med Rapalas (Diving, floating, and jointed)
  • Too many Mr Twisters and similar "gummies" to count
  • Spoons, Etc
  • Bass / Walleye type lures
  • Wooden floats and those cheap red / white plastic ones

Ok, so there's more but I think you get the jist.

Sorry for the long post but...well I'm usually like this on forums...

Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with that area, but I'd be concerned with getting your lure deeper. This could be done a number of ways, I assume a down rigger is out of the question, you could also use a dipsy diver or a bottom bouncer or even a 3way swivel and a bell sinker. If the above terms are unfamiliar utube them there's lots of good info there. Good luck and post how you do.
