I changed the rear dust/grease seal on one of my boat trailer wheels.
Checked the bearings , cleaned and re-greased.
Now, when I try to put the hub back on the axle, it will not go back as far as it should?? I've spun the wheel as I tighten the castellated nut, but no matter how much I tighten it, the hub needs to go back about 1/8 inch more and it won't.
I phoned the service dept. at Shorelandr trailers and they had no suggestions?
Any body got any ideas?
Only thing I can thing of is that the back bearing race has moved closer to the back of the hub? Don't know how that would happen as I never touched the races.

Hey Sd. The race will bottom out inside the hub. If you remove the hub you will be able to see if it seated correctly. Their is a very tight tolerance between the bearing inner diameter and the spindle. The inner bearing may be jamming on the spindle before it is seated correctly. Remove the hub and the inner bearing .inspect for damage and clean with Emery cloth. Try installing the inner bearing only on the spindle and see if it seats correctly . I doubt it ,but also chech if their is a ware sleeve from the old seal on the spindle..
