Picked up a new to me winchester sxp with 3.5" chamber today at epps( merry christmas me). It uses browning invector plus screw in chokes, I have never had a shot gun I could change them in, will be used for turkeys, probably deer and potentially some geese next year. Any advice on what chokes for what shot and where to get them would be appreciated

I'd recommend cylinder for slugs if you go that way, mod for steel shot, waterfoul. Don't for get to grease the threads when you clean your gun. They can get water and rust, then you can't get them out. I know a guy that this happened. Ended up messing up barrel and had to cut down.

I use mod for pretty much everything except slugs. Haven't shot a slug out of my SXP yet. Mine was new so it came with the 3. I think you will like the SXP. I do.

This answers a question I've had for a bit on if you could shoot a slug through them. Wasn't sure if i would need another barrel or not to use mine for deer.

I have a SX3 that I have used for deer using sabot slugs. Real accurate out to 75yds, could be further, I never tried. Have to clean barrel good after firing a few, lot of lead left behind. I have shot 5 deer with this setup. I put some screw on rifle style sights on and sighted in. Now have a saddle mount on it so can change sighting systems.

No hard and fast rules when it comes to choke selection. Putting some shots on paper will give you and idea on what will work for you. Basic rule of thumb Factory full lead will work for turkeys Steel shot have to watch the constriction as full steel usually is a modified lead in most cases though opening up the choke can improve the pattern. A good shot can make a tighter choke work where a more open pattern is more forgiving however may limit your range as pattern density decreases with distance. For me Turkey- Factory full lead Goose- full steel(which is the mod lead choke) Ducks and geese over decoys- improved cylinder upland- improved cylinder

You can use special choke grease or just use gun lubricant. I just use the same lubricant as I use for the rest of my gun. After a day of shooting I clean my gun including choke and screw it back in finger tight. Never had an issue with any of my guns in 40 years and I shoot twice a week skeet/trap.
